SPILL THE MILL RACE
What is Spill the Mill Race?
Re-discovering People’s Lives and Crafts through Story, Dance and Clay
There is a secret river flowing below the streets of Lancaster. The Mill Race flows where Roman soldiers marched along the Lune. It washed the feet of mediaeval lepers and seeped into the cellars of Victorian slum-dwellers. As slave ships set sail from Lancaster, it trickled on through mud and clay and swept away the filth of industry and humanity. Now you’re invited to Spill the Mill Race and explore the forgotten, suppressed or ignored stories and crafts of those who knew its flow.

Throughout September and October 2023, we will be running a series of ceramics, dance and story-making workshops exploring and re-imagining the history of the Mill Race area of Lancaster. Then on 11th-19th November, the creations will be exhibited at St John's Church in the heart of the Mill Race.
